Whether you are a die-hard fan of comics, anime, and sci-fi, or just someone who loves checking out unique local events, there is something at this convention for everyone to enjoy.

One of the best parts of the weekend is the opportunity to meet celebrity guests. You can get up close for Q&A panels, autographs, and photo ops, which is a fantastic chance to hear stories from the voices and faces behind your favorite shows and games. If you prefer to shop, the exhibit hall is the perfect place to hunt for one-of-a-kind art, comics, collectibles, and apparel that you simply won’t find anywhere else.

The atmosphere is truly electric, especially when you see the community’s creativity on full display. The cosplay is always next-level, and even if you are not dressing up yourself, the contests are an absolute blast to watch. The event runs on Saturday, May 16, from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, May 17, from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Convention Center right here in the heart of Hot Springs. The competition is heating up with a guaranteed $3,000 cash purse on the line. The winning team will walk away with $1,500 and an official championship game board, while second, third, and fourth places will take home $750, $500, and $250, respectively. The entry fee is just $50 per two-person team, and if you arrive without a partner, the organizers are happy to pair you up. Gates open at 11:00 AM, and with food trucks and live racing setting the scene, it is shaping up to be a perfect day to crown this year’s state champion.

Raise a Glass at the Infield Craft Beer Festival

There is no better way to celebrate the grand finale of the racing season than with a cold brew and a view of the homestretch. From 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the infield transforms into a paradise for beer lovers. We have lined up some of the best local talent, so you can enjoy tastings from Arkansas favorites like Crystal Ridge, Stone’s Throw, Point Remove, and Stiegl. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased upon arrival at the tent in the infield starting at 12:00 PM. Please remember that this event is strictly for guests 21 and older, so have your valid ID ready. As a bonus, your $15 ticket also grants you full access to the "Wine, Place, Show" event, letting you explore both festivals throughout the afternoon.

Whether you’re looking to get active with a 5K, cast a line in a fishing tournament, or just relax under a spectacular fireworks display, we have something for everyone.

Kick Off the Weekend: Patriotic Splash Party

Start your celebration early on Thursday, July 2, at 5:00 PM at the Outdoor Pool (205 DeSoto Blvd). We’re hosting a festive, patriotic-themed splash party to get the holiday energy going. It’s the perfect way to cool off with family and friends, featuring music, great food, and fun games. Keep an eye out for more details coming soon!

Family Fun: The Kids' Fishing Derby

On Friday, July 3, at 8:00 AM, we’re inviting the little ones to the Lake Cortez pavilion for a free Kids' Fishing Derby. It’s a wonderful morning for children to enjoy the water, with the lake specially stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Sponsored by HSV Parks and Recreation, the Lakes Ecology team, and the Anglers Club, this event runs until about 10:30 AM. A limited number of loaner poles are available, but please bring your own if you have them! Registration isn't required for residents, but if you’re joining us from outside the Village, just call 922-5790 for a registration link.

Independence Day Action: Freedom 5K & Fireworks

Start your Saturday, July 4 with a bang at the Stars and Stripes Freedom 5K Fun Run and Walk at Lake Balboa Beach! Check-in starts at 6:30 AM, and the race kicks off at 7:30 AM. It’s a great way to start the holiday, and all runners will receive a custom finisher’s medal, with awards for top finishers. Note that there is a strict field limit of 175 runners, so be sure to register early—it's $20 online until July 2nd, and $25 onsite on July 3rd and 4th. You can also register or check in early at the garden next to the Coronado Fitness Center on July 3rd from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

As the sun sets, don't miss the main event: our Fireworks Spectacular at 9:15 PM over Lake Balboa. This yearly show is a community favorite, and we rely on your generous donations to keep it going. Wrap Up the Weekend: Anglers Fishing Tournament

Cap off your holiday weekend on Sunday, July 5, with the HSV Anglers Fishing Tournament on Lake Balboa. It’s an early start—fishing begins at 6:30 AM, with the weigh-in at 11:30 AM. The entry fee is $20 per team, plus an optional $5 for the Big Bass Pot, with all fees collected at the ramp. It’s a 100% payout event, so come out for some friendly competition and see who can land the biggest catch of the weekend!

If you’re near the water, make sure to catch the Lake Hamilton shows on May 24 (Memorial Day Sunday), July 4(Independence Day), and September 6 (Labor Day Sunday). The barges set up right across from the DoubleTree near the Highway 7 South Bridge, and the show starts as soon as it gets dark. It’s a local favorite—whether you’re watching from your car or floating on a boat, it’s a stunning view.

Pops on the River in Little Rock

For the ultimate Independence Day bash, you’ve got to head to downtown Little Rock for Pops on the River. It’s way more than just a fireworks show—it’s a full day of fun!

Eat & Shop: Grab a bite from the food trucks and check out the local makers at the Vendor Marketplace.

The Music: Find a spot and get ready for some incredible live sets from the Kemistri Band (featuring Nicky Parrish) and The Rodney Block Collective, all leading up to a massive performance by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

If you find yourself with a free evening, you’ve got to make your way over to a game to see the Arkansas Travelers. Most of us just call them the Travs, and honestly, there’s never been a better time to join the crowd. Since they’re the reigning 2024 Texas League Champs, the atmosphere at the park is buzzing—there’s just something special about the energy in the stands right now!

The Travelers have been around since 1901, so they’re a huge part of Little Rock’s soul. Back in the '50s, they actually became the first pro team in the country to be named after an entire state rather than just a city. The name itself comes from that old "Arkansas Traveler" folk tale and song you might have heard of.

They play at Dickey-Stephens Park, which is a fantastic place to spend a summer night. It holds about 7,300 people, but my favorite way to watch is grabbing a spot on the grassy berm with a blanket.

The best part? It’s not just for die-hard baseball fans.

The season runs all the way through September, and the park is set up for everyone:

For the kids: There’s a dedicated Kids Park and a splash pad to keep them cool while you watch the innings fly by.
For the grown-ups: Head over to the Beer Garden for a cold drink and a great view.

It’s basically the quintessential Arkansas summer experience. Grab some peanuts and enjoy the game!

Let’s Talk About Hot Springs

If you’re looking for a getaway that feels a little bit like time travel and a whole lot like a deep exhale, you’ve got to check out Hot Springs, Arkansas. It’s tucked right into the Ouachita Mountains, and honestly, there’s nowhere else quite like it. It’s got this wild mix of 1920s gangster history, stunning nature, and thermal water that’s been steaming out of the ground for ages.

The Water is the Real Deal

The first thing you’ll notice is the steam. There are 47 natural springs here, and the water comes out at a piping 147°F.

Check out Bathhouse Row You have to take a stroll past these historic buildings. They look like something straight out of Europe. You can still do a traditional soak at places like the Buckstaff or Quapaw. It’s the ultimate way to reset.

Stop by Superior Bathhouse Brewery. It’s the only brewery in the world located inside a National Park, and they actually use the spring water to brew their beer. Trust me, you can taste the difference!

History

Hot Springs wasn’t always just about relaxation. Back in the day, it was a massive gambling hub.

Legend has it that Al Capone loved this place because it was "neutral ground." You can head to the Gangster Museum of America to hear all the gritty stories about the underground tunnels and the colorful characters who ran the town.

Baseball Roots: Did you know spring training basically started here? Even Babe Ruth spent time in Hot Springs. You can follow the Historic Baseball Trail through downtown to see where the legends used to hang out.

Get Outside and Breathe

If you need to burn off some energy, the "Spa City" has you covered.

Hiking with a View: There are over 26 miles of trails. If you want the best view in town, head up to the Hot Springs Mountain Tower. From 216 feet up, you can see the entire valley and the mountains stretching out—it’s breathtaking.

Lake Life: If you’re more of a water person, Lake Hamilton and Lake Ouachita are right there. Whether you want to rent a boat for the afternoon or just find a quiet spot to fish, the water is crystal clear and perfect for a sunset cruise.

Join us at the Hot Springs Convention Center on Saturday, April 4, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a free, family-friendly day filled with live performances and cultural demonstrations. This year, we are thrilled to welcome featured guest Yoshi Amao, a world-renowned storyteller and sword master known for his unique blend of humor and history. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a longtime supporter, the festival offers a vibrant look into Japanese traditions through dynamic stage shows and interactive exhibits.

To truly immerse yourself in the culture, we invite you to register for our specialized hands-on workshops. These small-group sessions offer rare opportunities to learn traditional arts from skilled instructors, including the Tea Village Experience, the art of wearing a Yukata, and Kintsugi with Osaka artist Nao Shaneyfelt. You can also try your hand at Kokedama moss ball making with Garvan Woodland Gardens, Taiko drumming, or explore the "Soul of the Samurai" with Yoshi Amao. Because seating is limited, early registration is highly encouraged.

Beyond the performances, the festival continues its literary and artistic traditions with the Annual Haiku Competition and a newly introduced Origami Competition. Writers of all ages have until March 26 to submit their haiku for a chance to win cash prizes and see their work displayed at the event. The Fordyce Bathhouse

Opened in 1915, the Fordyce Bathhouse was a marvel of its time. Designed by Mann and Stern, the structure cost over $212,000 and is the largest on the entire Row, spanning roughly 28,000 square feet over three floors, two courtyards, and a basement. The Fordyce shuttered its doors on June 30, 1962—the first on the Row to do so. Today, however, it has been beautifully restored and serves as a fully furnished, historical museum for visitors to enjoy.

The ESSE Purse Museum

The ESSE Purse Museum & Store, one of only two purse museums in the world, explores the art, history, and essence of the feminine through the handbag. Owner Anita Davis named it ESSE (Latin for "to be") because the purse is viewed not just as a utilitarian bag, but as an extension of a woman's personal identity and evolving role in society.

The permanent exhibit, "What’s Inside: A Century of Women and Handbags 1900-1999," celebrates the progression of the 20th-century American woman decade by decade, using the contents and style of her purse to tell the story of her struggles, accomplishments, and the times she lived in. This collection, which began as a traveling exhibit, found its permanent home in Little Rock in 2013.

ESSE also features quarterly temporary exhibits focused on empowering women and is becoming a cultural hub for female heritage in Central Arkansas. The museum store offers a variety of unique and handcrafted handbags, jewelry, and other items from local and international artisans.
