Local wildlife

Hot Springs Village is a true wildlife sanctuary, where the diverse landscape of the Ouachita Mountains and eleven sparkling lakes create a home for an incredible variety of neighbors.

Whitetail Deer are the most frequent residents, often seen grazing near golf courses and backyard greenbelts. The wooded perimeters are also home to elusive Black Bears and Bobcats, though they typically prefer to stay out of sight. You are much more likely to spot Red and Gray Foxes darting through the brush, along with Coyotes whose yips define the Village evenings. Near the water, look for North American River Otters and Beavers maintaining their lakeside lodges.

Our lakes offer prime hunting grounds for Bald Eagles and Osprey, while Great Blue Herons are a common sight along the shorelines. As the sun sets, the "who-cooks-for-you" call of the Barred Owl often echoes through the trees. In the more secluded, marshy areas of our larger lakes, you might even catch a glimpse of a resident Alligator or a Snapping Turtle sunning itself.

The forest floor stays busy with Armadillos, Raccoons, and Opossums making their nightly rounds. During the day, Fox Squirrels and Chipmunks are constant companions on the walking trails. While most of our reptilian neighbors are harmless, residents should stay mindful of the Copperhead, a venomous snake that occasionally rests in rocky areas or high grass.

Recreational Lakes

With 11 recreational Lakes in Hot Springs Village, there are endless opportunities for boating, skiing, fishing and nature watching. Amenities include three swimming beaches, two covered pavilions and two full-service marinas. Village lakes offer a variety of fun activities like swimming, kayaking, and catching your limit at the well-stocked fishing holes that abound in this community of lakes. Pontoon boat parties are a favorite past-time of residents and when the sun starts to go down, the picnic on the lake begins. Few communities offer the variety of water sports found year-round on our many scenic lakes in Hot Springs Village.
